1. DEFINITION OF COOKIE

Cookies are small text strings that the sites visited by the User send to the terminal where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the same sites at the next visit of the same User. There are various types of cookies depending on the duration, the function and the subject that installs them. Session cookies and persistent cookies distinguish cookies according to their duration. The former are automatically deleted after the browser is closed, while the latter remain on the User's device until a predetermined deadline. Furthermore, cookies can be divided according to their functionality in technical or profiling cookies. Technical cookies are those necessary for the operation of the Site and the provision of services; they are used for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication on an electronic communication network. They are technical cookies:

* browsing or session cookies, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the Site (allowing, for example, to authenticate to access restricted areas);
* analytical cookies, used to collect information in aggregate form on the number of Users and how they visit the Site;
* functional cookies, which allow the User to navigate the Site according to the characteristics and criteria selected in order to improve the service offered (for example the choice of language).

Profiling cookies, on the other hand, are aimed at creating profiles relating to the User and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of surfing the net. Finally, it is appropriate to distinguish between third-party and first-party cookies. The third-party cookie is sent by a site other than the one displayed by the User and used to keep track of the preferences shown by the User. In this way the third party (for example, the advertising agency) can conduct market research and direct advertisements to a specific target. Instead the first-party cookie is the cookie installed by the site operator that the user is visiting. To obtain further information on these cookies, and to exercise your opt-out on the use of individual third-party cookies, you can use the links in the table below (point 3).
